  • Editorial notification of introducing APC

    2023-12-13

Dear Contributors of the Journal of Psychedelic Studies,

I trust this letter finds you well. As the editorial team of the Journal of Psychedelic Studies, we write to inform you of an upcoming change in our publication process that will take effect on January 1st, 2024. After careful consideration, the editorial board and our publisher have decided to introduce an Article Processing Charge (APC) for all published papers.

The decision to implement an APC was not taken lightly, and it comes after an in-depth analysis of the financial sustainability of the journal. As the landscape of academic publishing evolves, we strive to ensure the continued availability and quality of the Journal of Psychedelic Studies. The introduction of an APC is a step towards achieving this goal.

Commencing January 1st 2024, an APC fee of 990 EUR will be applicable to all manuscripts submitted after December 31st 2023 and accepted for publication. This charge is designed to cover the various costs associated with the publication process, including editing, typesetting, and online hosting. It is important to note that the APC will only be levied upon acceptance of the manuscript, and there will be no submission or peer-review charges.

We understand that the introduction of an APC may raise concerns among our esteemed authors and readership. However, we wish to emphasize that this decision is driven by the necessity to maintain the high standards of the Journal of Psychedelic Studies and to ensure its long-term viability. The revenue generated from APCs will be reinvested into the journal to enhance its infrastructure and to expand its reach contributing to the advancement of psychedelic research.

Authors facing financial constraints are encouraged to explore available waivers and discounts, which will be implemented in accordance with our commitment to inclusivity. For technical details please refer to the journal’s Instructions for Authors.

We appreciate the ongoing support of our authors, reviewers, and readership community. The Journal of Psychedelic Studies remains dedicated to fostering rigorous, multidisciplinary research in the field of psychedelics. We believe that the introduction of the APC will enable us to continue providing a platform for cutting-edge research and facilitate the exchange of knowledge among scholars worldwide.

Thank you for your understanding and continued collaboration. We look forward to your valuable contributions to the Journal of Psychedelic Studies in the future.

    Best Regards,
    Attila Szabo, Ph.D.
